Brushing your teeth. This is one of the most frustrating activity ever for me. It is so boring. I never woke up enthusiastically, ready, bursting out of joy because I am going to brush my teeth. However, I do take care of my teeth.
I heard many contradictory messages when it comes to taking care of your teeth. Some say it, do it for 2 minutes, some say it 5 minutes, 6 minutes… Some people say it be soft and gentle when you brush your teeth. Other people say it to brush it hard…. I mean… so many contradictions.
At one point I decided that I am going to brush my teeth thoroughly, perfectly, totally, completely, hard…that I will spend around 5 or 6 minutes focusing on it…and I will do it twice a day.
And I was doing that for couple of weeks…and to be honest, I didnt find it do be useful… Just the opposite…I think your teeth become weaker if you are brushing them too much and too hard.
Then I was thinking. What to do? How to brush it?
And I came to an idea. I developed my own system and I call it 1234.
1-represents my teeth that are on the top on left side.
2-represents my teeth that are on the top on right side
3-teeth that are down at bottom on left side
4-teeth that are down at bottom on my right side.
Then I use paper and I write on paper like this:
And so on…and that is only one column… There is a lots of space for couple of columns on paper
Now lets say you go to brush your teeth. You are still at the beginning and you are on number 1… That means that I am going to focus on 1 (teeth that are on the top on left side)… Those teeth, that side I am going to brush thoroughly, hard, effective, I am going to give it attention, focus… Other sides of my mouth, 2,3,4…I will just brush them easily, not putting to much pressure on them.
So focus is on 1. And then when I am done. I am going to take pen, and circle number 1 on paper… Next time when I will go brush my teeth, I will look at my paper and I will see that we are on number 2 now… So this time I am going to focus mostly on 2 (teeth that are on the top on right side). Those teeth I will brush with focus and attention.. Other sides…1,3 and 4..I will brush it easily… And then, I am going to circle number 2 on my paper… And then again next time when I will be brushing my teeth..I will see that it is time for number 3 (teeth that are down at bottom on left side) and I will focus on those teeth.. Anyway, I think you can understand this system.
It works for me… To focus on all teeth in your mouth is a lot of work and it weakens your teeth. I prefer to focus only on one part of my mouth that I will brush hard..and other parts I will go easily and lightly. And then I will just circle around… I am using paper and I am circling numbers because otherwise I will forgot on which part I am.
